Meir Agassi (1947-1998) was an Israeli artist, collector, author, poet and art critic, who lived in England since the beginning of the 1980s. Despite the physical distance, Agassi remained deeply involved in Israeli life and culture, and his essays were regularly published in Israeli newspapers and journals. At the same time, Agassi was devoted to his artwork, only little of which has been exhibited in Israel hitherto. After his tragic death in a car accident in February 1998, the Mishkan Museum of Art in Ein Harod inaugurated the Meir Agassi Museum/Archive/Library – a memorial to the artist and a permanent store of his collections and works.
