In the numbing silence of the COVID-19 lockdown, Noa Ben-Nun Melamed immersed herself in her photo archive, extracted dozens of images from it, and created hybrids of a surrealistic nature that make up her exhibition Atlantis. Like that mythical lost continent, which was the subject of much curiosity and yearning in human mythology, the exhibition presents a kind of “no-place,” with no beginning or end. The photographs depict the devastation wrought by humanity upon a utopian world that is seductive in its beauty but unsettling and deceptive; a world devoid of animals and humans yet bearing the memory of their remains.
