The painting Pit is a result of a mental and creative emptiness that Amit Cabesa felt a few weeks after the pandemic broke out. His attempt to cling to the familiar framework of his life and to the routine of everyday work led to this monumental work, which is utterly different from anything he has created in the past. The plaster structures scattered around the room, with paintings imprisoned within, are like a paintings graveyard, suggesting a cultural vacuum. The two parts of the exhibition are like a three-dimensional, sculptural and material painterly event that seeks to “swallow up” the viewer and at the same time keep one at a distance.
